Next Potato Shipping — October 1st

We are now out of last years crop of certified seed potatoes. We will be harvesting the new crop in September and will be able to start shipping again this October 1st. Please note that if you order seed potatoes now, they won’t be shipped until October. When you plant seed potatoes in the spring you can usually expect 99 to 100 percent emergence. Planting the new crop in the Fall may only have an emergence of 80 percent. This happens because the new seed potato crop hasn’t gone through the usual 3 to 6 month dormancy period. However, many growers don’t mind this and some will pre-sprout the seed to get it going again. Other’s have better success planting the seed immediately because the conditions in the soil and the moister will convince the potato to start growing again. It’s also a good idea to keep the seed potatoes above 55 degrees as they may go into dormancy at cooler temperatures. It’s harder to get the potatoes to grow once they’ve gone into dormancy.
